Having a Green Tag associated with your product ensures that the highest environmental standards are being followed. #
In this day and age with environmental issues at the forefront of mind, there are many brands and products that claim to be environmentally friendly when only the loosest standards are being followed. It is very easy to be fooled by a product claiming to be “natural” when one feature ingredient is promoted as the basis of the product, when in reality hiding behind it are a whole host of not so environmentally friendly ingredients and processes. When there is an abundance of greenwashing like this it can be hard to identify which products are truly living up to their claims.
The Green Tag process and why it’s different #
Products that go through the Green Tag certification system are scored against pillar sustainability assessment criteria, as well as product lifecycle and social criteria. This ensures that the product is made in a socially conscious way, and that it will withstand a certain amount of use equating to long lasting product lifespan.
Achieving a Green Tag certification requires a comprehensive and robust audit process, whereby products are assessed via scoring their individual ingredients across a range of attributes including toxicity, health and safety. This differs from other scoring systems which don’t require this level of detail down to the specifics of each individual ingredient in a product.
Green Tag is not only recognised in Australia and New Zealand but also recognised internationally in over 70 other countries. This means you can rest assured knowing that the certification is recognised worldwide and evaluated against the highest standards. Green Tag uses the LCARate system which contains four different levels of attainment. These levels are Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum which helps buyers to choose the products best suited for their projects and helps manufactures to improve their ratings by giving them guidelines as to how to move into the next level.
Why use RLA Green Tag certified products? #
One of the major advantages to using products that are Green Tag certified in your build is that you are assisting yourself to achieve the Nationwide House Energy Rating (NatHER) which is a star rating that ranges from 0 to 10 and measures how energy efficient a house is based on its design. The rating is based on the roof, walls, floor, and windows of a home.
Having a high HER is a plus for homeowners because the space is naturally comfortable in both winter and summer which saves on heating and cooling costs. Additionally, having a high HER is great for builders as since 2013 new home and apartment builds must receive a minimum of a 6-star rating within the system.
Choosing RLA Green Tag certified products ensures that you are helping yourself to meet this standard. To make it even easier we supply whole systems that are Green Tag certified, so you never have to guess which products work with each other in the most environmentally friendly way possible.
